in my humble opinion, as you bring your hands in 2 things happen; first you increase your stroke, meaning the bar travels further from your chest to lockout and second you use more tri's and less chest. By putting your index finger on the ring you lessen your stroke and most important you incorporate more chest muscle and less tri. Your chest muscle is alot bigger than your tri's and in time your bench will increase. Most important, as you get into a properly altered bench shirt, it will be next to impossible to get the bar to your chest with a narrow grip. A more narrow grip will make it harder to try and break the bar and thus rotate your elbows in as you are lowering the bar. All this is discussed in my you tube videos. Next time you bench, put your index finger on the ring and leave it there!

put on a bench shirt and stop overtraining. I do no raw training for that very reason. Aches and pains are due to old age, not enough rest and recovery and overtraining.

I have been fighting with myself to just lift in my shirt, i just would like to get my raw bench Way up but i guess after all these years its just not going to happen. I used to love lifting in my shirt, its just hard to do with no spotters worth a crap.
