First a little background here: My name is Jon Darty, I am 26 years old, 6ft 225 pounds. I started JoeAverage training the first of June 2004. I have competed in 1 bench only meet and hit 405 about 2 years ago..
Well where do I begin.. I am just now finishing up my second full JoeAverage training cycle this week. This program has taken my lifts higher faster than I could have ever hoped for... I have religiously followed both Westside and Metal Milita in the past for about 1 full year each.. They were good programs, but in Just 6 months on JA my lifts have improved much more than they did over the previous 2 years on the other programs combined..
Well for example.... When I first began JA training I was around a 500 pound bencher.. At the end of my first JA cycle I hit 550x3. 10 weeks into my second JA cycle I hit 550x9. Hell of an improvment if you ask me.. And I now have my eyes fixed on going over 700 this year.. All in the same shirt I was using before JA and at the same 225ish bodyweight....
Now for my squat: Well prior to JA I could not squat 225 without serious back pain.. I had injured my lower back about 4 years ago and have not been able to do more than light box squats since without feeling like I was going to reinjur my back.. And in fact on probably 3 occasions I did just that squatting no more than 315.. Well I started JA training and something happened... My free weight work started coming slowly at first, but once I started to push the band tension up then all of a sudden I found myself able to squat heavier than I ever in my life have...
Somehow all the band tension forced me to improve my form and learn to get seriously tight under the bar.. Well long story short I began my first 12 week cycle with an all out effort with 335 for 5 reps.. Just last week at the end of my 2nd 12 week cycle I hit 550 for 6 easy reps.. And I would have hit more if I hadn't had a little trouble walking it out.. My foot got away from me......
Well what else can I say, this program works.. I have no doubt that it will work just as well for anyone else who will just give it a chance. But please, don't bash this program if you haven't tried it before.. It works plain and simple, and has for everyone I have known to try it... And yes, it will work for all you drug free guys.. It must, it works for me...
Jim Parrish has absolutely gone above and beyond to help me set up my training and answer any and all training question, no matter how stupid they may have been... In my experience Jim has proved himself to be a real stand up guy and someone I like to consider a friend.. So Jim I just want to thank you for all your help and I hope to one day be fortunate enough to train with you... It would be an honor...
