My name is Dennis, I'm 40 years old and have been lifting weights since 7th grade and competed in my first powerlifting meet in 1993 and am lifetime drug-free. I compete in the 242 pound class.
As far as powerlifting I've tried everything out there, from standard progressive/periodization to Westside. The periodization worked the first couple of years and then stopped, Westside gave me good workouts but never translated to good meets..
I started JA in March 2003 after reading a couple of Jim's articels. We conversed over e-mail. I think I was one of the first guys to use the system that wasn't actually lifting with his team. When I made the switch I was dreaming of hitting a 600 squat and 400 bench, having been stuck in the high 500's for squat and mid 300's for bench for several years. In November of 2004 I squatted 750 and benched 475. My subtotal is getting close to my total of two years ago!
I want to emphasize that these gains were made drug-free, at 40 years old, and training alone in my basement.
I believe the key to making this program work is trusting that it will and giving it true effort. The results will speak for themselves. There are alot of people on this site that will be happy to help.
