I was using the SS Bar, green bands and 500 lbs for box squats Friday. When I went to come out of the rack with the weight there was a large pop in my upper back between the shoulder blades at which time I immediately replaced the weights. Now my back is extremely sore in that area but in the soft tissue area. My wife checked my spine for irregularities and for a particular sore spot but found nothing. My plan is to wait for a few days and see if it gets better before seeing anyone. If I do go in to have it looked at would you recommend a chiropractor or orthapedist? Thanks in advance for your advice.

There are at least 3 muscles that will contract to counteract the downward force of the yokes of the SSB 1. Trapezius 2. Rhomboids 3. Levator
Any of these muscles could be strained. However, since there is no point tenderness, you may benefit from spine adjustment by a chiropractor. Wait a few days, use heat and ice, see what happens.
If you have any further questions, do not hesitate to contact me.
